Every time schools close for holidays, most parents are left wondering where to take their children. Majority resorts to having them stay at home the whole day reading, playing video games or visiting their close friends (neighbors).
At the end of the school holidays, the students go back to school and continue with the normal routine.
This is not the case to a few parents who have realized there is more to education than the four classroom walls and endless homework.
These parents look forward to the holidays so that they can have their children get engaged in more productive and skillful activities which shape them to be the best.
Below are the top 10 things your child can to during the holiday season to prepare him or her for a good life, career or entrepreneurship.

Table of Contents
#1 Volunteer
By volunteering, a child gets exposed to a different world – one beyond their normal. It could be in an orphanage, children’s and elderly people’s homes, social group or in a community.
#2 Learn to Code
For the children who are interested in technology, coding can be one of the best skills they can get. Take them to a practical coding event, enroll them in a coding class or buy them an online course.
#3 Learn a new Language
A second language is always an added advantage. It could be a foreign language or one from a different community.
#4 Learn to bake or cook
If they show interest in culinary arts, teach them how to bake or to prepare different foods. You can even go further and help them start a blog to showcase their recipes.
#5 Intern for free
An internship is one of the best ways to learn a skill as it gives them an opportunity to interact with professionals and experts in their field of study. It can also be a great avenue for them to apply what they have studied in school.
#6 Travel
Give your child the best gift, take them to a new place, let them visit their friends in different counties, book a flight for them to a neighboring country and they will be thankful forever.
“We must go beyond textbooks, go out into the bypaths and untrodden depths of the wilderness and travel and explore and tell the world the glories of our journey.” – John Hope Franklin
#7 Learn a musical instrument
Not every child would want to code, travel, bake or volunteer. But maybe they get excited every time they see someone play a guitar, piano or saxophone. If this is your child, enroll them in a music school and let them learn an instrument of their choice.
#8 Learn a traditional skill
With modernity and growth in technology, most people only hunger for white collar jobs. With the increased number of graduates, these jobs have become scarce and the youths end up unemployed.
If you teach your child a traditional skill, you create options for them. If after school they don’t find an office job, they can still live on their craft.
Some of the best traditional skills are; carpentry, masonry, roofing, blacksmith, handcrafting and mechanics.
#9 Learn a digital course
Almost everyone is going digital. Businesses are utilizing online platforms to buy and sell products and services. Instead of playing video games all day, let them dedicate some time learning a digital skill. It could be sales, marketing, web design, copywriting, analytics or public speaking.
#10 Learn entrepreneurship
If you own a business, take your child with you to work and teach them how to sell and deal with clients. They may not end up starting the same type of business but the skills will help them in the future.
