Best Higher Education Institutions in Africa
Each year Times higher on magazine lists the top 1000 universities in the world after a rigorous vetting. The listing is based on Research, teaching, international outlook and knowledge transfer.
Higher education in Africa has continued to improve over years despite the challenges faced by the institutions.
“The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018 list the top 1,000 universities in the world, making it our biggest international league table to date. It is the only global university performance table to judge research-intensive universities across all of their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. We use 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry, and governments. The calculation of the rankings for 2018 has been subject to independent audit by professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), making these the only global university rankings to be subjected to full, independent scrutiny of this nature. This year, we have made a slight improvement to how we handle our papers per academic staff calculation and expanded the number of broad subject areas that we use.”
Globally, Oxford University continues to rank as the best university in the world followed by Cambridge University.
In the recent ranking, South African universities dominated the fete with 4 out the top 5 African Universities being based in the country.
